Questions Vanasse Law LLC Can Answer About Your Workers’ Compensation Case

    • What benefits am I entitled to?
    • Am I entitled to benefits if I aggravated a pre-existing condition?
    • Can I treat my injuries using my own doctor?
    • What if my claim was denied?
    • Should I settle my workers’ compensation claim?

    Common Types of Workplace Accidents

In the workplace, the type of accidents that give rise to potential workers’ compensation claims can vary substantially.  Pennsylvania law gives injured workers the right to obtain workers’ compensation if they suffer what is known as a “work injury” in r the course and scope of their employment.  As such, no specific injury is necessary to receive workers’ compensation benefits — the circumstances giving rise to an injury are what counts.

For example, if you are working as a private security guard at a sports arena, and you are injured by an angry fan (who attacks you with a bottle), then you would likely be entitled to submit a claim and recover workers’ compensation benefits.

Despite the fact that it is the particular circumstances surrounding an injury that determine whether an employee will be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits, there are certain accidents that commonly occur in the workplace context.  These common workplace accidents include:

    • Chemical exposure
    • Fires and explosions
    • Equipment failure
    • Slip-and-fall accidents
    • Overexertion accidents (i.e., sprain/strain injuries)
    • Stress-related accidents
    • Motor vehicle accidents
    • Third-party hazards (i.e., law enforcement, security guard, etc.)
    • And more

According to a recent study conducted by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry, there were 159,170 work injury and illness cases reported to the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation in 2016 alone, along with 77 reported fatalities.  More than half of the injuries and illnesses reported to the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation were in the Educational and Health Services industry, as well as Trade, Transportation, and Utilities.  Sprain and strain injuries accounted for the highest percentage of total cases, while contusions, crushing and bruising injuries, other injuries, and cuts, lacerations and puncture injuries also accounted for a significant portion of the total.

If you have suffered a work injury, we encourage you to get in touch with a Lancaster workers’ comp lawyer here at Vanasse Law.  We have extensive experience handling a wide range of workers’ compensation claims, and as such, are well-positioned to advocate on your behalf no matter the particularities of your case.
